In 2012, the battleship U.S.S. Iowa was towed from Suisun Bay (San Francisco area) to the Los Angeles Waterfront in San Pedro to continue her service as a historic museum ship.  Several days after her arrival in Los Angeles, I began serving as a volunteer tour guide aboard this amazing ship.    The U.S.S. Iowa, now operated by the Pacific Battleship Center, served our country from World War II, the Korean War and all through the Cold War before she was decommissioned for the final time in 1990 – over  50 years of available service.

While I volunteer on the ship about twice a month, and enjoy the opportunity to share the ship’s history with our guests, I am especially privileged to meet the men and women who have proudly served in our armed forces, aboard a ship that so nobly commemorates their duty and sacrifice.  If you love history and/or historic ships, or simply want to enjoy a beautiful day, eating and shopping on LA’s Waterfront, I invite you to visit the Iowa for an incredible experience.
